alt-AI / exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and art

Earlier this year SFPC in NYC was the host to alt-AI, a conference organised by Lauren Gardner and Gene Kogan to highlight and question artificial intelligence through the lens of artistic practice. What role can artists, writers, coders, and curators play in mediating scientific research to the public? How do we critically examine the implications, artifacts, and applications that follow? The conference took place from 20th until 22nd of May, 2016 and featured a mini exhibition as well as a series of talks and workshops. Participants included  Francis Tseng, Hannah Davis, Mario Klingemann, Cassie Tarakajian, Gene Kogan, Rebecca Fiebrink, Mike Tyka, Heather Dewey-Hagborg, Golan Levin, Kathryn Hume, Jason Levine, Lynn Cherny, Brian Whitman and Allison Parrish.
