Brain Research Lab continues to help students, researchers

by: Holly Watkins Since beginning in 2010, the Brain Research Lab located in the Health and Human Services building has provided mentorship and growth opportunities for students as it conducted research. The main focus of the lab is research on “how the brain and behavior changes in response to traumatic brain injury,” but also other fields including “environment in neuroplasticity” and “how symptoms of anxiety and depression change following brain injury.” It operates under the motto, “the harder you work, the more opportunities to succeed you will get.” There are currently six undergraduate students being mentored and working in the lab. The lab is led by Jeffrey Smith, the lab director and Malcolm & Lois Field Endowed Chair of Health Sciences, along with Assistant Professor of Health Sciences Charles Weaver.…
