Study design/methods For 2 weeks, non-gamer college students played either a passive, 2-D video game (“Angry Birds”) or an intricate 3D game (“Super Mario 3D World”) for 30 minutes/day. Before and after training, they underwent complex learning/memory testing involving the hippocampus. Key Results Memory did not improve in 2-D gamers, but in 3-D video gamers, memory increased by ~12%, which is similar to the typical decline from age 45 to 70.
