Charles Vest Fellowship for work applying machine learning to biomedical imaging data

Many congratulations to Jure Sokolic, a PhD student supervised by Dr Miguel Rodrigues, who has recently been awarded a prestigious Charles Vest Scholarship which addresses US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) Grand Challenges for Engineering, for his project to explore theoretical and practical aspects of the machine learning method named Deep Learning (DL) and its applications to biomedical imaging data of various modalities. He will be working at the Pratt School of Engineering, Duke University, NC, under the supervision of Professors Robert Calderbank and Guillermo Sapiro. His project is listed under The Grand Challenge of engineering new tools for scientific discovery, which encompasses efforts ranging from developing the next generation of quantum computers to devising new ways to analyze and extract useful information from massive datasets generated by new technologies.…
