Computer-Aided Diagnosis and Machine Learning Methodology Applied to Retina Diseases

Call for Papers Typical diseases of retina are age-related macular degeneration which is the main cause of blindness in both developed and developing countries and systemic diseases which include diabetic retinopathy from diabetes and hypertensive retinopathy from cardiovascular disease. Causes of macular degeneration include the formation of deposits called drusen under the retina and, in some cases, the growth of abnormal blood vessels under the retina. With or without treatment, macular degeneration alone almost never causes total blindness but can lead to the loss of the central vision. Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of visual impairment in working-age adults. The most common early clinically visible manifestations of diabetic retinopathy would include microaneurysm formation and intraretinal hemorrhages.
