Firebase, Android Studio Developer Tools Steal the Show at I/O

In some ways, we saw two different Googles on display at the company’s I/O developer conference in Mountain View, which opened yesterday. One was the confident Google, extending its lead in search and mobile, and its strengths in machine learning to other adjacent markets, as well as offering some impressive new tools for developers. The other was a less cocky Google playing catch-up in the market for conversational assistants, messaging applications, and virtual reality. Most of the headlines went to the latter category, where the changes are more tangible. But for most developers, the extensions and changes to Android and the development tools around it are likely to have a more immediate impact.
