Ford Motor Company has invested a hefty sum into 3D-mapping startup Civil Maps. The car company is among a group of participants placing seed money into the mapping firm as it seeks new ways to advance the development of autonomous vehicles. The startup has closed a $6.6 million funding with the U.S. multinational automaker and others including Wicklow Capital, AME Cloud Ventures, and StartX Stanford. The Albany, California-based software company uses three-dimensional data to create highly detailed maps for self-driving cars, and Ford Motor Company wants in on the action.
