Google Is Building a New Messaging Service with Chat Bots: Report
Google Now may be coming to a messaging service near you: Google is building a new messenger that will include artificial intelligence-based users that can answer questions or do tasks for a user, something that’s also being called a chat bot, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The service will host Google-operated chat bots, but may also offer third part developers the ability to operate their own such automated users. The new service has been under development for at least a year, and work on it is being headed by Nick Fox, according to the Journal. Fox was most recently in charge of Google’s Hangouts messenger as well as Google’s Project Fi wireless operator experiment. It’s unclear when the service will be launched.
