Google Using Machine Learning To Make Reading Comics Easier

Google updated Play Books last year with a new vertical scrolling experience so that those who used the app to read comics could get a better user experience. It has been working to improve the experience even further and has announced today that it’s using machine learning to make it easier to read comic books. The new feature, announced today at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, is called Bubble Zoom. Bubble Zoom is a new way to read digital comics on smartphones and tablets. It uses the same technology that Google utilizes to recognize objects in photos. The system has been trained to identify speech bubbles in comics so Bubble Zoom expands the speech bubbles one-tap-at-a-time, making it very easy to read comics on a mobile device.
