Innovation key in tight economy: Black

An Alberta senator says the province must promote “a culture of innovation” to adapt to a world that is increasingly less dependent on oil and gas. In a speech to the Rotary Club in Grande Prairie on Friday, Senator Doug Black warned that Alberta’s good fortune has led to complacency. “Because we’ve been able to rely on oil and gas and the opportunities flowing from it, we haven’t necessarily had an environment where we’ve had to create other sources of wealth,” he said in an interview before the speech.
