I was a nerd’s nerd growing up. Oh sure, some people did Dungeon & Dragons and others did LARPing, but I did the nerdiest thing a nerd can nerdily do: I read science fiction and dreamed of making science fact. I read it all, from zombies to artificial intelligence (AI), and back again. It was the latter that interested me the most, and as such I actually learned some of the trade from old books, salvaged from dusty tombs in thrift shops.
