Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Launches Artificial Intelligence Research Lab to Compete With Google

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) recently announced the launch of the Microsoft Research AI lab, which will focus on obstacles in the field of artificial intelligence. Based out of the MSFT headquarters in Redmond, WA, the lab will involve more than 100 scientists working in various AI subfields such as natural language processing, machine learning, visual perception and decision making, among others. The plan for the Microsoft Research AI lab is to combine these into a uniform technology that will have a cognitive approach. MSFT is also working on an Ethical Design Guide for AI development based on CEO Satya Nadella’s principles. Microsoft also stated that it will be working with a new application from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) called Seeing AI meant for assisting blind people. Moreover, with the AI for Earth program, MSFT is using artificial intelligence to help organizations address environmental challenges related to water, agriculture, biodiversity and climate change. The company also committed $2 million for this initiative.
