Nvidia unveils 256-core processor to power future autonomous vehicles

When it comes to self-driving artificial intelligence in cars, Nvidia is now at the driver’s seat. The graphics chip manufacturer announced an incredibly powerful mobile processor, codenamed Parker. The processor will be the brains behind a self-driving platform.Earlier, Nvidia had unveiled the Drive PX 2, which the company says is a “supercomputer for cars”. Now, it announced that Parker will be the brains behind it.Part of Nvidia’s Tegra family, Parker is a mammoth 256-core processor that can give up to 1.5 teraflops of computing power for “deep-learning based self-driving AI cockpit systems.” This is in addition to churning out over 24 trillion deep learning operations per second.
