Andrew Griffiths “Before smartphones, before drones, before Instagram – we had Robot Wars!” So rumbles the ominous tones of the Hollywood-style voice-over for the Robot Wars trailer, marking the imminent return of the show to our TV screens this weekend after a 12 year rest. The new series, which sees robots designed by amateur and professional contestants fighting to the death in a gladiatorial arena rigged with boobytraps, is to be presented by Dara O’Briain and Angela Scanlon. It also returns to its original home of the BBC, after a brief swivel over to Channel 5 for a single, unsuccessful run in 2004.
