Senior Seminar Results in Neuroscience Research Grant for Sumner Magruder

Sumner Magruder ’16 a neuroscience/biomathematics/computer science bridge major, received a grant from the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (BIF) travel award program to conduct research at the University of Gottingen, Germany.  BIF is an independent, non-profit organization that supports up-and-coming junior scientists and promotes basic research in biomedicine. Magruder will join Dr. Ira Milosevic at the European Neuroscience Institute to work collaboratively with Dr. Nuno Raimundo in the Department of Cellular Biochemistry. Their research will analyze Next Generation Sequencing data with the goal of identifying common pathways and networks for neurodegeneration.  “I am thankful that my senior seminar involved the writing of a research thesis,” says Magruder. “It was crucial to my receiving the award and a tremendous benefit to me. I hope other Rhodes students will consider a research thesis.”
