Sonoma County couple donates 5M to UCSF neurosciences

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – A Sonoma County couple says they will donate $185 million for a new neuroscience institute at the University of California, San Francisco. It’s the largest donation in the school’s history. The Press Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/26r5Qg5 ) that university representatives characterized the donation from philanthropists Sandy and Joan Weill as among the largest ever for brain research in the United States. Construction is set to begin next year on a $316 million building to house the Weill Institute for Neurosciences. The Weills say they hope the institute can improve the lives of people with brain-related ailments, from Alzheimer’s disease to autism.
