Sony, US startup eye more inquisitive, helpful devices

TOKYO — Japan’s Sony on Wednesday announced a tie-up with Cogitai, a U.S. startup specializing in artificial intelligence. The two companies plan to jointly develop next-generation technology that incorporates the latest advances in AI. Peter Stone, Cogitai’s president and chief operating officer, and Hiroaki Kitano, president of Sony Computer Science Laboratories and the head of the company’s AI research, met in Japan on the weekend. With “some of the best brains in the field of AI,” the two are aiming at groundbreaking tech that will significantly affect industries and people’s lives, as well as academia.  The name “Cogitai” was coined from “cognition,” “IT (information technology)” and AI.
