Jeff Spry Mon, Sep 26, 2016 11:49am If there is a heralding anthem for a future, Skynet-like AI takeover, it just might be this creepy pop tune concocted entirely by a Sony Research Lab artificial intelligence software system named Flow Machines. Flow absorbed a massive song database to conjure up the composition below by listened to samples of hundreds of merry melodies similar to The Beatles, a catchy crop of easy listening selections, then composed its own facsimile. The result, at least to my ears, has a subtle tinge of malevolence barely perceptible beneath the lulling electronic currents of its pseudo-dreamy “Coldplay meets The Beach Boys” facade. “Daddy’s Car” is the latest chart-climber this microchip brain came up with after a crash course in musical styles, assisted in the arrangement and production department by musician Benoit Carre.
