U. of I. team to work with IBM to make Watson smarter

University of Illinois researchers this summer will start working to make IBM’s Watson technology smarter. A team at the Urbana-Champaign campus will collaborate with IBM Research to advance machine learning, officials said Friday. The partnership will create the Center for Cognitive Computing Systems Research at UIUC, set to launch this summer. Researchers will try to create algorithms and technologies that will allow computers to learn more like humans, absorbing information from multiple sources, said Hillery Hunter, director of systems acceleration and memory at IBM. Officials also hope researchers will build systems that can take advantage of more advanced machine learning, and deploy it for everyday use.
