The University of Michigan (U-M) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) will be conducting a joint research symposium April 21, 2016, to develop collaborative research projects between co-investigators from SJTU and UM. The objective is to match investigators who would respond to a call for proposals for a Seed Phase for joint research projects in the field of data science for  sustaining critical  infrastructures for the environment and human health.   Seed projects will develop innovative methodological approaches for data collection, data  analysis, and data interpretation in the service of sustaining biodiversity and human livelihood. Areas of interest include but are not limited to healthcare and biosensors, clean air and water, healthy food, reliable electricity, safe urban environments, sanitation and waste disposal, epidemiology, population growth, ecology, environmental toxins, antibiotic use, microbiome, atmospheric science, and sustainability.
