UW hosts White House workshop on artificial intelligence
SEATTLE — The University of Washington will host the first of a series of White House public workshops on artificial intelligence on Tuesday afternoon. The gathering is an opportunity to plan for a future in which self-driving cars, robots, and other autonomous devices will become common in households and the workplace. Artificial intelligence is already streamlining tasks which once required human control. “Like any transformative technology, however, artificial intelligence carries some risk and presents complex policy challenges,” Ed Felton, a Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer wrote in a blog post announcing the workshops. The UW gathering is the only one on the West Coast. The others will take place in New York City, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.
