When AI robots are in the streets killing us it will be too late, says tech guru Elon Musk

The South African-born tech entrepreneur says that the usual way regulations are initiated is after there has been public outcry and a disaster. But Mr Musk, who is involved ion space exploration firm SpaceX and revolutionary car company Tesla, says that the threat that AI poses is too great to react to. Speaking at the 2017 National Governors Association Summer Meeting, Mr Musk said that AI is the “biggest risk we face as a civilisation.” He argues that the dangers of AI is potentially unfathomable, which is why experts need to act fast. Mr Musk: “Until people see robots going down the street killing people, they don’t know how to react because it seems so ethereal. “AI is a rare case where I think we need to be proactive in regulation instead of reactive.  “Because I think by the time we are reactive in AI regulation, it’s too late.” Mr Musk, who has previously said that he wants to get humans to Mars in the 2030s, added: “Until people see robots going down the street killing people, they don’t know how to react because it seems so ethereal. “AI is a rare case where I think we need to be…
