Barrie student musician wants to cure Alzheimer’s

The harp, piano and neuroscience blend beautifully for Amy Hynes. The Grade 12 Barrie Central student is looking at universities where she can begin her studies to become a neuroscience researcher.  “I’m really interested in studying Alzheimer’s Disease and finding a cure for that. My grandma has Alzheimer’s, so it’s really close to me,” said the 17-year-old. “She doesn’t recognize me any more. She knows she knows me. She just can’t put names to faces.” Early this year, the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County launched its Music and Memory program, which lends iPods and creates personalized playlists for Alzheimer patients.
