Sophia Genetics applies machine learning algorithms to analyse the samples for disease-related genes within two hours Cambridge-based genetic testing company Sophia Genetics has become the world’s largest network for molecular diagnostics. The startup announced that it is working with 100 hospitals across 18 European countries, and will diagnose 80,000 patients in 2016. Backed by $18m from British entrepreneur Mike Lynch’s firm Invoke Capital, Sophia Genetics diagnoses a range of diseases such as hereditary heart conditions, cystic fibrosis or juvenile diabetes and various cancers including breast, lung and melanomas, using artificial intelligence. “Europe now has a head start, given how data-rich [Sophia’s] platform is, and others will struggle to catch up,” Mike Lynch told the Telegraph.
