The computer science world erupted with excitement earlier this week, when an artificial intelligence program made by the Google-owned AI company DeepMind bested the human European champion in the 2,500-year-old board game of Go. Considered one of the most challenging games in existence, Go has held out as one of the last traditional board games at which humans are better than machines.
