Today the Japanese arm of Koei Tecmo announced via press release that it has partnered via a capital and business alliance with artificial intelligence developer HEROZ. HEROZ is a Japanese developer that specializes in various AI-related technology, including machine learning and more. They’re the creator of the Shogi (Japanese chess) AI Ponanza, that made headline recently for beating professional players in public matches, including Grandmaster Amahiko Sato in April 2017. The press release announces the development of new games powered by this partnership, and mentions that the goal is combining Koei Tecmo’s production capabilities and many IP with HEROZ’s artificial intelligence tech and know-how. The announcement concludes mentioning that in order to become the world’s number one entertainment contents provider, Koei Tecmo intends to continue developing projects that make use of new technologies. Speaking of Artificial Intelligence, Koei Tecmo has recently showcased plenty of gameplay of Dinasty Warriors 9, featuring Guan Yu, Cheng Pu, and Xhiaou Dun. The AI did seem a little rough around the edges, but it’s certainly interesting to see how more advanced artificial intelligence tech could influence Koei Tecmo’s many games, that are often based on fighting against armies of enemies that tend to be pretty dumb.
